Safe & Welcoming Outdoor Spaces vital for Hospitality Industry and Lockdown Eases

As the lockdown eases, the hospitality sector is looking to its outdoor spaces to provide safe, socially-distanced capacity. In this blog we look at the part that outdoor heating can play in optimising the role that they can play.

Following the announcement at the start of June 2020 that businesses with licences for outdoor seating were to be helped in initiating restricted reopening, bars and restaurants have been looking at ways to maximise their square footage in order to comply with social distancing rules. This means preparing outdoor spaces for some big changes.

With this in mind, venues are being encouraged to make the most of their spaces to make them more enjoyable for the influx of visitors expected over the next few months.  Installing efficient and effective outdoor heating to make areas both comfortable and inviting as well as being affordable for businesses is one of the ways they can do this.

Our infrared heaters are developed to completely heat an outdoor area and encourage diners to eat outside whatever the weather and enable outdoor areas to become an extension of an indoor area. This also provides extra revenue for the bar or restaurant, something that is very important in the current climate.

Outside areas offer lower risk of transmission

Whilst experts are warning that being outside isn’t completely safe and with the avoidance of crowds and keeping a 2m distance from others still necessary, they are increasingly confident that evidence is showing that the Coronavirus spreads much less readily outdoors. This is because the droplets of the virus disperse rapidly in the wind meaning experts have been able to offer reassurance that passing someone for a few seconds outdoors presents a low risk of contracting COVID-19.

Parks and beaches are already being used for cycling, walking and general exercise, as fresh air not only boosts health and morale but also provides a very low risk of spreading the virus.

In fact, some studies have shown that activities held outdoors in warmer temperatures pose a lower COVID risk than those done in indoor spaces, so many businesses and services are urged to adapt their work so that they can get the country moving again.

The hospitality industry, one of the worst hit sectors, will be looking at how other countries are adapting and are taking their lead from places like Vilnius in Lithuania which has opened its central square and other outdoor areas to restaurant seating.

Outdoor seating will become more common-place

Outdoor seating at bars, restaurants and cafes will become acceptable as long as it is done correctly, and is a way people can enjoy themselves in a way they did before lockdown. Spaced-out seating will be just like any other outdoor activity, with sitting apart just a small price to pay for claiming back a piece of normality, and providing a warm environment on cooler days is an important starting point. Infrared heating also doesn’t impose any additional risks that other types of heating might, including the circulation of air to create warmth.

All of Tansun’s products are made in the UK and are designed using premium components. We have been trading for 35 years and pioneered the concept of infrared electric heaters alongside Philips technology. Tansun has the largest range of commercial, domestic and industrial infrared heaters in the world, providing maintenance-free, safe and healthy shortwave heaters for many different types of heating applications.
